Plumpkin, the lopsided little fellow, orange in colour, with a smile so mellow. As Halloween arrives, he ponders his fate. Surely there is an adventure beyond the car gate?He listened around, to learn tonight’s trends. They were all having halloween fun with friends. But Plumpkin had no one to have fun with. So, instead, he’d find the perfect halloween outfit. Something has caught Plumpkin’s eye. A beautiful scooter, stretched way into the sky. “I can ride that,” Plumpkin thought with cheer. But how would he do it? It was a little unclear.
With the scooter so tall, the biggest he’d ever seen, Plumpkin set out on a journey…
…Just without the machine.
He hopped off the scooter and took to the street. Adventure awaited; what a treat!Though the walk was long, and little Plumpkin was small, he was so determined to see it all. Through the tall grass and underlying decay, the little pumpkin toy marched on his way.And at last he saw what he set out for, the city of Kamloops, from Sahali to the North Shore. He was finally in the city, but had not much time. Poor Plumpkin knew it would soon be night. He must find the perfect costume before it was too late. So it was off to the stores, and he must make haste. To Spirit Halloween, the little pumpkin went, hoping he could find some last-minute gems. Inside the store gave Plumpkin a real fright! He didn’t quite like the skulls, the spiders, or the sprites.
His time at the store was all for naught. He had no costume, and was now a little fraught. But Plumpkin hadn’t any more time to waste. He knew he had to pick up the pace!
The second store was quite the winner; there were no creepy ghouls or web spinners. On the clothing racks, though quite the fall, Plumpkin hoped for a costume that was one size fits all.He tried hundreds of clothes, but nothing felt right. There simply wasn’t any clothing for a pumpkin his height.Hours passed, and Plumpkin was in a bad mood. His belly was rumbling; he needed some food.. And what could be better, in terms of cuisine, than some good old Canadian poutine?
Once he had eaten, it was time to resume. Plumpkin would do anything to find his costume.
Because he had something savory, Plumpkin was filled with a new sense of bravery. He returned to the skulls, the spiders and sprites, to find the best spooky outfit for tonight. As he searched, something caught his eye, as orange as bright as he. Plumpkin thought that this could be a friend, “Surely one wants to come home with me?”Plumpkin chose a pumpkin so orange and wide… could this be a companion to be by his side? And if he had a friend he could spend the night with, maybe it was fine that he didn’t have an outfit? With his companion beside him, Plumpkin simply couldn’t pretend. Life was simply so much better with a trusty orange friend.A day long gone, and explorations done, a new friend in tow, to have lots of orange fun. Plumpkin sat by his computer, and was ready to write. To make an account of his adventures all day and all night. His stories were so good, that he got a new job. “A journalist!” He said, with a happy sob. And sometimes now, in the newsroom he sits, The Omega’s new mascot, a perfect fit!Plumpkin may not have found his spooky threads, but he found a few wonderful friends.
And so ends the tale of a little pumpkin so small, who ventured out alone, and witnessed it all.
