A showdown against a familiar foe is on the horizon for the WolfPack Women’s Soccer team as they gear up for their final regular-season home game of 2023 season.
On Friday night, at 5 p.m., the TRU WolfPack (4-5-2) will host the UBCO Heat (6-3-2) at Hillside Stadium. Before kickoff, there will be a special recognition ceremony for hometown legend Emily Clark, who currently graduates fourth in the program’s record book for regular-season goals (6). Clark is an Academic All-Canadian, whose dedication in the classroom as a BSc student. In addition to her prowess as a forward, will be sorely missed when she graduates.
With only three games left on the TRU WSOC schedule, this clash against UBCO carries immense importance for the ‘Pack, who are vying to secure a spot in the Canada West postseason. Two Canada West teams will participate in the 2023 USports Championship, taking place November 9–12 at Queen’s University in Ontario. Currently, TRU sits just outside the Canada West playoff picture, in sixth place; they are four points behind the UFV Cascades, who occupy the fifth and final playoff spot. TRU’s Friday night opponent, UBCO, finds themselves tied for third place with 20 points.
TRU and UBCO clashed earlier in the season, with UBCO securing a 1-0 victory in Kelowna. This match offers the ‘Pack an opportunity to even the score in the annual President’s Cup standings. TRU holds a 6-5-6 record in all-time Canada West play against the Heat, with their most recent victory coming on last year’s Senior Night—can they do it again this Friday?
The ‘Pack recently earned a hard-fought point during a challenging road swing last weekend, kicking things off with a 1-1 tie against the UFV Cascades in Abbotsford before facing a 4-0 defeat against the TWU Spartans in Langley. At home, they can look forward to the support of their “twelfth player” in the stands!
All WolfPack games are free for TRU students with a valid student ID, shown upon entry, while general tickets may be purchased at the entrance or online, here.
