TRU women’s volleyball dominates in six straight Sets

The women's volleyball team wins six straight sets for the first time since the 2019-20 season

TRU Women’s Volleyball team showcased a remarkable performance during their first home games of 2024, securing victory in six straight sets – a feat not achieved since the 2019-20 season. The ‘Pack faced off against the MacEwan Griffins, triumphing with 3-0 results on both Friday and Saturday.

Second-year outside hitter Ema Palkovicova emerged as a standout player, delivering one of her best performances with an impressive .471% hitting percentage. Currently, Palkovicova stands as one of the leaders for the Wolfpack in both kills and serves.

“I think I was good at not letting the tips from the set drop, which is also my job I’m really good at,” Palkovicova said.

“Offensively, everyone had a pretty good night. Ema was super efficient, Kiera did a good job, Brooklyn was effective, and I think early in the match Libby did a good job of getting our middles going, and that opened up more space for our wing hitters,” said head coach Chad Grimm.

The team lived up to their goal, securing a convincing 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-22, 25-14). With this triumph, TRU now boasts a season record of 5-9 and holds an impressive 3-1 record in their last four games.

“We were stable and consistent, we didn’t get too far ahead of ourselves. We did a good job from the service line and put them under a ton of pressure, and any time you’re able to do that, it makes your life a whole lot easier,” Grimm said.

Looking ahead, TRU will host UBC Okanagan Heat on Friday and Saturday at TCC. For more information, visit the official website.
