Available positions


Staff Writer

Working with the Editor-in-Chief and our section editors, staff writers will have the opportunity to cover a wide variety of topics through stories written in the journalistic form. Stories are either assigned by an editor or pitched by the writer at our weekly meetings. This position pays $100.00 weekly.

Staff Photographer

The Omega’s staff photographer will capture eye-catching images relevant to stories produced by our writers, as well as covering photo ops both on- and off-campus relevant to the TRU community. Other projects, such as photo essays or weekly features, would also be welcome. This position pays $100.00 weekly.

Contributing Writers

The Omega accepts story pitches from any student looking to try their hand at journalistic writing on a volunteer basis. Contributors are eligible for a year-end honorarium awarded at The Omega’s discretion. Contributing writers can pitch their story ideas directly to the Editor-in-Chief by emailing editor@theomega.news.


All staff members of The Omega can pursue a variety of learning opportunities within the operation, including online and print publishing, photography, infographics, special editorial projects and more in co-ordination with the Editor-in-Chief.


Eligibility requirements

All Omega staff members producing editorial content must be students at Thompson Rivers University and enrolled in classes during the term in which they work.

As an independent publication, The Omega endeavours to avoid conflicts of interest in editorial content and as such, cannot employ Thompson Rivers University communications or marketing staff members or TRU Students’ Union representatives. If you are unsure about whether or not you are eligible, please contact the manager.
