Spider-Man Brand New Day trailer breakdown

The wait is almost over...

The Spectacular Spider-Man is back! After a five-year hiatus, Tom Holland’s rendition of the “Web-head” is heading back to the big screen. Ever since the announcement of the film and the new suit on Aug. 2, 2025, fans have been waiting impatiently for the first trailer to drop.

The trailer was finally released nearly two weeks ago, on March 18, although not as expected. The film’s star, Holland, revealed that short clips of the trailer would be released through a fan campaign throughout the day before the full trailer dropped.

As one of the biggest pop culture characters of all time, Spider-Man has always amassed a great following, either through his comic books, video games, TV shows or movies. Every few years, once a Spider-Man project is announced, fans all over the world wait for even a speck of information. Back in December 2025, an unfinished version of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer reportedly leaked online, showing early, low-quality footage. The leak only made fans more excited for the upcoming movie, allowing the hype to continue to build.

Just a few short days after its release, the official trailer surpassed one billion views, reaching the historic milestone faster than any movie trailer before it. After rewatching the trailer a thousand times like everyone in the world, The Omega has compiled the trailer’s biggest reveals.

New threads, who dis?

Revealed in the film’s announcement, the trailer begins with Peter Parker donning his new Spider-Man suit. The new threads are confirmed to be homemade after losing his tech-based suit following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Four years later

The trailer picks up four years after we last saw the spandex-wearing wall-crawler. It’s revealed that Parker’s former friends, Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson (Zendaya) and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), are back in town after finishing their degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The events of Spider-Man: No Way Home forced Parker to leave his old life behind, causing everyone in the world to forget who he is, including the love of his life and his best friend. Now, we see Peter trying to rebuild his life, although MJ seems to be out of reach, as she is seen with a potential love interest.

Unlikely frenemies

Throughout the trailer, we see Parker struggle to keep up with his double life, a trope that fans of the titular comic book character are familiar with.

Eventually, fans get their first glimpse of one of Spidey’s allies when he’s nearly run over by a recognizable Marvel character, Frank “The Punisher” Castle (Jon Bernthal). Bernthal’s version of the character debuted in the original Netflix Daredevil (2015) series, before reprising his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe revival series Daredevil: Born Again (2025).

During the brief sequence, the two exchange words, revealing that they don’t really get along.

The action!

Throughout the trailer, we see Spider-Man in full glory, diving from skyscrapers, web-swinging through the city and fighting tanks. In another notable flash, Spider-Man can be careening towards a mid-air collision with a gaggle of red-clothed assassins, characters who closely resemble members of “The Hand,” a group that began as foes of Daredevil, but have also clashed with The Punisher and Spider-Man in the past.

New changes and old allies

Halfway through the trailer, we see Peter Parker collapse, riddled with sweat and blood. He’s later awakened in a web cocoon on the edge of a building, as he stops himself from falling using organic webbing, akin to Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the beloved character from the original 2000’s trilogy.

Following a discussion with his former colleague from The Avengers, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), we learn that Parker is undergoing biological changes that Banner suggests may be “mutations,” which are leading him to develop his new abilities.

Ruffalo’s role in the film isn’t surprising, as Banner and Parker have a long history in the comic books. The character was last seen in the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) series, where he revealed that he can now use a device that allows him to freely change between his human and ‘Hulk’ forms.

This is going to sting…

Three-quarters into the trailer, audiences are finally treated to the debut of a long-teased villain, Mac “The Scorpion” Gargan (Michael Mando), a brutal sociopath and career criminal who has often acted as a thorn in Parker’s side. Spider-Man fans have waited for this fight for the last nine years, as the character was teased in Spider-Man: Homecoming’s (2017) post-credit scene. The two characters battle it out on a dark New York City night, surrounded by chaos and fire.

Spider-Man’s been busy!

The trailer concludes with a montage of villains Spider-Man has faced, even paying homage to some iconic comic book covers.

We see Spider-Man saving a citizen, imitating the Amazing Fantasy #15 (1962), Spider-Man’s first appearance. Then we see him dodging projectiles, thrown by the villain Boomerang, paying homage to The Amazing Spider-Man #345 (1991). Lastly, we see Spider-Man fighting an arachnid-based villain, Tarantula, akin to The Amazing Spider-Man #134 (1974). Finally, we see Spider-Man battling against an unknown group of ninjas (presumably the aforementioned “Hand”) in a prison, showing how a hero’s job is never truly done.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a Marvel Entertainment/Sony Pictures film, hits theaters this summer on July 31.
