Applications open for 2025 Climate Action Grant program

Create your initiative to support the Kamloops community.

The City of Kamloops is now accepting applications for the 2025 Climate Action Grant program, which provides funding to support community-driven climate action initiatives.

This program aims to assist residents, non-profit organizations, and charities in advancing projects that contribute to the city’s climate action goals. It offers grants of up to $2,000, with $20,000 in total funding available from the City’s Climate Action Reserve.

The funding is designed to help local groups implement projects that align with the objectives of the Community Climate Action Plan, which focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing resilience to climate change, and enhancing the urban ecosystem.

To be eligible for funding, projects must demonstrate a direct benefit to the community and align with the priorities outlined in the Climate Action Plan. They should also foster neighbourhood pride, improve community wellness, and adhere to principles of equity and climate justice. This includes initiatives that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance community resilience, or support the development of a healthier urban ecosystem.

Projects that could qualify for funding include textile recycling and clothing swap events, bike safety and repair workshops, community gardening and planting initiatives, and repair events to reduce waste. These types of community-based actions can play a critical role in both mitigating climate change and promoting sustainable practices at the local level.

The City’s 2024 Climate Action Grant program funded 16 diverse projects, such as a trail restoration project, waste reduction programs in local schools, and initiatives to increase climate change awareness and education. These projects reflect the program’s broader goal of empowering local citizens and organizations to take meaningful action in their communities.

Applications for the 2025 grant program will be accepted until January 13, 2025. Interested individuals and groups are encouraged to submit their proposals early and ensure they meet the eligibility criteria outlined on the City’s website.
