Judge Michelle Stanford to speak at TRU

Trailblazing Kamloops judge will be spotlighted at the EDI and AR lunch.

In honour of Women’s History Month, TRU’s Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism will host Honourable Judge Michelle Stanford for a lunch and learn event on Oct. 18.

Judge Stanford, who made history as both the first Black and first female bencher in Kamloops, boasts a remarkable 27-year career as an administrative and criminal lawyer.

Experienced in mental health issues surrounding the legal system, she was involved in establishing a mental health court in Kamloops. Recognizing her significant contributions, Stanford was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2018 and ascended to the B.C. Provincial Court as a judge in 2021.

Stanford was previously highlighted in a TRU event celebrating Black History Month in February 2023. As she returns this year to speak, students have the opportunity to hear about her inspiring journey and gain invaluable insights from her wealth of experience.

The lunch and learning, sponsored by the School of Nursing, is open to all students and will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Old Main, in room 3782.

Due to limited seating, registration is required by Oct 11. To secure your spot, please visit  tru.ca/whmll.
